Pediatric Eye Exams Bushnell
Early Detection of Problems with Your Child’s Vision is Critical
Ram Eye Care and Retina Center provides pediatric eye exams to Bushnell and the surrounding areas. We can’t emphasize more the importance of pediatric eye exams for your child’s long-term vision healthcare. For that reason we recommend having your children have an eye exam as early as 6 months of age, again at 3 and at the start of school. Above all, we suggest your children receive an eye exam every year throughout school. So much of what children learn in their formative years is dependent on visual acuity. Finally, if your child is already wearing glasses or contacts, they should have their eyes examined yearly as their eyes can change rapidly as they grow. So, call or contact us today to schedule a pediatric eye exam for your child

What Should Parents Look For in their Children’s Eyesight?
It’s important for parents to look for possible signs of poor vision. And children who will be at a higher risk to develop vision problems are those who have family members, especially siblings who wear glasses. During the toddler and preschool ages, children experience a time of rapid growth in motor skills. Specifically, this is when they develop hand-eye coordination, and other perceptual skills that will help them in sports, reading and writing, and artistic skills like drawing or building.
During these formative years parents should look for signs of lazy eye (amblyopia), or cross eyes (strabismus). Namely if your child has difficulty in color recognition, coordination, or letter recognition, these could be early indications of vision problem. But other signs could be sitting close to the TV, rubbing of the eyes, and squinting.
Older children between the ages of 6 and 18 with undetected vision problems face the possibility of suffering academically, athletically, and socially. Some symptoms of vision problems in older children could include:
- Losing their place while reading
- Frequent blinking
- A short attention span
- Headaches
- Doesn’t want to read aloud in front of others, and poor reading comprehension
- Double vision
